Urad Dal Laddu is the best homemade dessert for winter cravings and this traditional laddu is prepared at many homes during winter as a regular custom. This easy to prepare homemade laddu comes with several amazing health benefits too. Urad Dal contains high amount of iron, calcium and magnesium. Urad Dal is rich in protein, carbohydrates and fats making it the best weight gaining food too. This heart-healthy lentil also helps ease digestion process, great for skin and boosts energy.
One is advised to take this Laddu during Pregnancy as it assists fetal brain growth, prevents anemia, fills in for the protein requirement and makes for a great energy booster. Girls during puberty and lactating mothers can have this too. Urad Dal Laddu is famously called as Sunnundalu in Andhra. Ingredients
- Urad Dal - 2 cups
- Palm Jaggery - 1 cup
- Sugar - 1 1/2 cup
- Ghee - 2 tsp + 1/2 cup
- Cashewnuts - 20 chopped
- Pista - 10 chopped
- Almond - 10 chopped
Method
- Take Urad Dal in a thick pan and start roasting it on medium flame until it is well roasted and turns brownish in color. Transfer it to a plate and cool it completely.
- Take cool roasted Urad Dal in a mixer Grinder and make a fine powder. Add Palm Jaggery at this time and grind it for only 2-3 rounds more.
- In the same pan add little ghee and fry Cashewnuts, Almonds, Pistachio until they turn brown and crispy. Take it out and add the ground Urad Dal and Palm Sugar mixture and roast it for 2 minutes more.
- Switch of the flame and add ghee and mix it well with the flour. At this point of time if you feel the necessity of more sweetness add Sugar Powder.
- Add roasted nuts mixture, mix well and start making laddus. You can add a little more ghee if the mixture is not coming together.
- Healthy Urad Dal Laddu is ready to be served.

Note :
- These laddu stay good for 7 days in room temperature and tastes good when consumed immediately
- You can use Palm Sugar, Coconut sugar or plain sugar to make this laddu
- Add Dry Fruits Powder or Assorted Nuts Powder if you are making it for toddlers who can’t chew nuts well yet.
