When a woman doesn’t menstruate for 12 continuous months, it is to be considered menopause. At around 40 to 50 years of age women go through menopause. This can be little early or little later but this phase brings in lot of worries and turmoil in a woman’s life. Some of the heard issues associated with menopause may be true but some may be mere one’s experience, or overhype. In this video we shall talk about symptoms and care during Menopause and Pre-menopause.

Symptoms of Menopause

Menopause is not scary always and many associate this stopping of menstrual cycles to freedom and liberation. However, hormonal changes can bring in discomfort and few health concerns in some women.

1. Headaches & Hot Flashes

2. Dry skin, eyes or mouth

3. Vaginal Dryness, itching and shrinking

4. Hair Loss

5. Weight Gain

6. Joint & Muscle aches

7. Trouble sleeping, depression

8. Sore, drooped breasts

These symptoms can last about 4 years, but varies from woman to woman. Natural menopause has three stages,

1. Pre Menopause – when your ovaries make less estrogen and you observe irregular periods along with few other symptoms mentioned above. During menopause you wouldn’t menstruate for 12 months as your ovaries have stopped releasing eggs.

2. Post Menopause – the symptoms and trouble faced during menopause ease a bit but the lower level of estrogen will weaken you as you get older.

3. Premature Menopause –  is when due to unknown reasons before you turn 40, your ovaries stop producing eggs or through induced menopause when your ovaries are removed for medical reasons.

Menopause Complication and Treatments

Some women experience severe hot flashes, bone loss, heart disease, weaker vision, breast issues or cataract. It is important to have a yearly full body checkup post you reach the 40 years of age to diagnose any health concerns and treat you on time. There are multiple hormonal treatments that can help you reduce the symptoms or effects of Menopause but talking to doctor is important before you opt for any, as it also shall have some side effects.

Self-Care during Menopause

 

Lifestyle changes play a major role in helping you get accustomed to the new change in your body.

1. Ensure to be physically active, exercise regularly.

2. Stay socially active or join some hobby classes.

3. Eat healthy foods and keep a watch on your weight

4. Meditation can help you reduce anxiety, stress and depression during this phase.

5. To keep your sexual life active use lubricants if necessary.

6. Love and accept yourself all the more, and the family needs to support them much.
