The most famous baby products brand used in India for ages and many other brands’ baby powder consists of Talc – found in rock deposits and mined like other minerals. Recently we can see the use of corn starch in many other Baby Powder Brands.

What is Talc and why is it dangerous?

Talc in its natural form may contain asbestos, a known carcinogen. Talc based products need to eliminate asbestos. But the trouble is some baby powder brands are not reviewed or approved before they land on store shelves, so there’s no guarantee that they haven’t been contaminated.

What are the general troubles caused by using Baby Powder?

Baby powder can cause breathing trouble and serious lung damage for babies if they inhale the particles. This is especially true of talc-based powders, with their small, easily inhaled particles. But other powders, including cornstarch-based powders, can also be inhaled. Even small amounts of powder can irritate a baby’s tiny lungs – especially if the baby is at high risk for respiratory illness. Those at high risk include premature babies, babies with congenital heart disease, and babies who’ve had frequent respiratory illnesses like asthma, etc. When you apply Baby Powder with Talc on a baby girl there are chances of ovarian cancer. Chances of skin irritation when it builds on and dries on babies’ skin

  1. Buy Talc-free Baby Powder – Some of them would be cornstarch-based, arrowroot or tapioca starch, or oats flour.
  2. Sprinkle it on a cloth, keeping it away from the baby, and apply on parts of the baby’s body required apart from the face.
  3. Never apply to a baby girl’s private part.
  4.  Keep the powder away from the reach of babies or kids. Never appreciate self-use.
  5. Wash it off completely well while giving a bath.
