Barley Vegetable Soup | Baby Food Version & Diet Food Version included
Barley is high in protein and rich in fiber. Barley strengthens bones and is good for the liver. It is non-allergenic and hence there is no reason you need to wait to introduce Barley to babies. This Barley Vegetable soup is great for babies and kids during all seasons because of its soothing property. Barley is great for someone who’s on a diet as it keeps one full for a longer time. Barley is rich in both soluble and insoluble fibers which makes it a healthy choice for people who are keen on reducing weight by eating healthy. I’ve here made 2 varieties of Barley Vegetable Soup – Baby Food Version & Diet Food Version so that you can choose to make it accordingly.

Barley Vegetable Soup for Babies
Barley Vegetable Soup

Ingredients
- Barley - 1/4 cup
- Mixed Vegetables - 1/2 cup
- Cumin Powder - a pinch
- Turmeric - a pinch
- Ghee - 1 tsp
- Tadka - optional
Method
- Take Barley in a bowl, rinse twice and soak for a minimum 2 - 4 hours.
- Take a pressure cooker and add soaked barley, followed by mixed vegetables of your choice.
- Add 1 1/2 cup water and pressure cook it for about 3-4 whistles.
To make a Baby Food Version of Barley Vegetable Soup :
- Take cooked barley and vegetables in a blender jar and make a fine puree and keep aside. Heat a pan and add ghee and cumin seeds.
- Add pureed barley mixture to the same pan followed by spices of your choice. I'm adding a pinch of pepper powder, turmeric powder, and cumin powder.
To make Diet Food version of Barley Vegetable Soup :
- Heat a pan and add curry leaves and cumin seeds to prepare tadka. Add cooked barley and vegetables mixture.
- Add turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt as needed. Cook the mixture for 2 more minutes.
- Barley Vegetable Soup is ready to be served.

Method of making Barley Vegetable Soup :
1. Take Barley in a bowl, rinse twice and soak for a minimum of 2 – 4 hours.
2. Take a pressure cooker and add soaked barley, followed by mixed vegetables of your choice.
3. Add 1 1/2 cup water and pressure cook it for about 3-4 whistles.
To make a Baby Food Version of Barley Vegetable Soup :

Note :
1. Barley or any food, when termed as diet food, doesn’t mean will reduce baby weight. It depends on the food combination and after and before a meal plan.
2. Take 2 tbsp barley and 1/4 cup vegetables if you are making it only for the baby
3. Feel free to spice it up as per your choice.
4. Soaking overnight is always good as it reduces the cooking time.
