GOOSEBERRY APPLE JAM for Toddlers, Kids & Family

Ingredients

  • Apple – 3
  • Gooseberry – 3
  • Water – ½ cup
  • Sugar – 2 ½ cup
  • Beetroot – 1 small
  • Lemon - 1

Method

  • Apples are washed and peeled, chopped big and kept ready. Now let’s clean the Gooseberries and deseeded them to cut it into bit small pieces.
  • Beetroots are cleaned and peeled, cut them smaller and add to the bowl containing the above chopped ingredients.
  • Add the ingredients from the above glass bowl to a pressure cooker and ½ cup Water is added to help it cook. Allow it to pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • Using a fork ensure if the Pressure cooker ingredients are cooked. A hand blender is used to make it into a puree or we can use a mixer grinder as another easy option.
  • Once the ingredients are pureed lets transfer them into a wide pan. Add Sugar 2 ½ cup and also squeeze ½ lemon and cook well on simmer.
  • Mix it well and continuously to avoid sticking underneath the pan. Once the sugar melts we can see the mixture of the Gooseberry Apple Jam thicken. Take care as once the jam thickens it may spill all over while hot and boiling on heat.
  • Let’s take a Jam Test to ensure it’s cooked properly: Grab an empty plate and keep it in freezer for 2 minutes. Now take it out and transfer a dollop or two of the Gooseberry Apple Jam mixture on to it and again rest it in a freezer for 2 minutes. After that if we are able to see a jelly Layer on top when touched and not moving easily on the plate then the Jam is here to relish.
  • Transfer the Gooseberry Apple Jam to an air tight glass container and serve it cool with Bread or any desired food.

NOTE

  • Considering the Apple are soft and cooks fast unlike Beetroot and Gooseberries we chop them accordingly to ensure they get equally cooked.
  • We can cook the Apples and Gooseberries and Beetroots in a pan as well and allow it to cool until it’s soft.
  • We can use a hand blender or we can transfer the pressure cooked ingredients to a mixer grinder to grind into puree.
