Pumpkin benefits for babies are abundant. It supplies essential nutrients like calcium and magnesium which are great for a healthy development. It is rich in antioxidants and aids digestion. This is the only ingredient I’ve not yet used in any recipe apart from puree I had made once for 3 Fruits Purees – Apple, Pear, Pumpkin – yes, Pumpkin is a fruit. And it adds great flavor to this Porridge. This can be given to 8 months plus babies

Broken Wheat Pumpkin Porridge for Babies Dalia Recipe in Hindi Kannada

Broken Wheat or Dalia is a great weaning food for babies considering it is in the purest form. High in fiber makes it easy to digest and increases babies’ metabolism. Its rich in Iron and Magnesium and keeps the baby full for a longer time. Broken Wheat or Dalia can be given to babies after 8 months and after introducing basic solids like fruits and vegetable purees, Kerala Banana Porridge and Rice Cereals.

Broken Wheat Pumpkin Porridge for Babies Recipe below:

Broken Wheat Pumpkin Porridge for Babies

A flavorful porridge with combination of Pumpkin and Broken wheat for babies for their easy weaning and helpful in their healthy development.

Ingredients

  1. Broken Wheat or Dalia - 1/4 cup
  2. Pumpkin - 1/4 cup grated
  3. Cumin / Pepper Powder - a pinch
  4. Salt - 1 year and above only

Method

1. Take a pressure cooker or a pan and add Ghee. Once ghee is hot add grated pumpkin fry it for a minute. Add Broken wheat or dalia and mix again. 

2. Add a pinch of cumin powder followed by water. 

3. Cover and cook for 15 minutes in a pan or pressure cook for 3 whistles. If you can soak dalia for 10 minutes it can get quickly cooked. Once cooked it will look like below.

4. You can serve the porridge as is by little mashing to babies above a year or whom you would like to introduce textures. To make a puree like soft porridge take a blender jar and the mixture and blend till smooth or with little texture as shown below. 

5. Broken Wheat Pumpkin Porridge or Dalia Pumpkin Porridge for Babies is ready to be served.

Note : 

1. You can serve the mixture without blending to introduce texture to babies

2. Check for gluten allergy in babies if introducing wheat for the first time

3. Keep porridge thick and do not dilute it too much

4. You can make this recipe using Barley or Rice too.
